Vasco the Spiky met his first enemy today...Shanghainese stinky tofu! The fermented tofu bricks were deep-fried and served with a small plate of sweet sauce. When Vasco approached the dish, he fainted! It was really quite stinky!!!
Fortunately, there were other dishes that Vasco really loves!
His two favorite dishes included the Drunken Chicken and Shanghainese Wild Veggie. He really loves the special taste of that wild fragrant veggie, mixed with sesame oil and diced bean curd. The Drunken Chicken was excellent as well!
He forgot to take a pic but he also had Golden Prawns, yummy. The prawns were deep fried and then coated with salty egg yolk! It was most tasty :b
Vasco was happy that he went to one of his favorite Shanghainese restaurants in Central tonight. The restaurant was Kiangsu & Chekiang Residents (HK) Association (香港蘇浙同鄉會餐廳). The best Shanghainese restaurant in town! The best thing was that he also heard a lot of people speaking Shanghainese. Vasco is very good at Shanghainese, so he was listening to what everyone was saying! Hee hee!
A follow-up on the 1937 nose job reported earlier. Alice's dad told Vasco that at that time, the doctors put 'real' bone or a small piece of ivory to make the nose bridge taller. According to him, it was safer than the artificial materials plastic surgeons used in the early post-war period. How about that? REAL bone...Vasco wondered what kind of bone...
