Hedgehog finally fulfilled his
har gau at his favorite neighborhood restaurant...yummy! It is too embarrassing to say...but he also had other
dim sum like:
cha siu baau, another kind of shrimp dumpling, custard bun, spring rolls, fried turnip cake, fried almond milk and diced beef. He left the dim sum restaurant with a very happy and full har gau tummy!
Then he wandered down to Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po. The reason for the adventure was the need for a new TV cable. It was a bit frustrating because Phil kept saying we needed a cable to plug into the wall to connect to the DVD recorder. Of course! That much was obvious! But he didn't explain which type of plugs is required. Hedgehog was simply confused. It was cranky, particularly in the very hot weather. The stall owner was not particularly helpful...he just said, yes, this was the one. Men became totally monosyllable when it came to electronic appliances...
Anyway, Hedgehog was more interested in the colorful light stalls. There were several stalls selling all kinds of light bulb and decorative light. The light was blinding but beautiful! The display was simply like a waterfall of light. Hedgehog can't wait until Christmas to get some light to decorate his den.
Another very interesting thing that hedgehog found was the playing of Cantonese opera songs and music. He was very surprised that everywhere he went, he could hear loud and traditional music being played! It could be just pure music at one stall and then full-blown operatic singing at another stall. It was all very different to him because he was more used to Cantopop and didn't know that one could hear traditional music in public space! Of course, people there were also speaking several different languages: Cantonese, Putonghua, English, and other South East Asian languages (he didn't which). Hedgehog had to admit that he didn't understand a number of these languages.
He said the street is really funky!
